Something seems familiar about this final match... Oh yes, this is the exact final that happened in 2011's Women's World Cup, and the USA and Japan are back again 4 years later for a rematch.
Japan are determined to maintain their reigning title, and the USA are desperate to bring back their first World Cup title since 1999. Both teams are extremely strong and tactical, so this is certainly going to be an epic battle for the Cup.
USWNT midfielder Carli Lloyd was one of three players to miss from the spot in the final shoot-out against Japan in 2011's Women's World Cup, and there is no doubt that the memory will be living strong as the player nears the rematch on Saturday. Having said that, she has been an extremely strong player throughout the tournament so far having scored 3 times in 3 consecutive games. This will be Lloyd's third final against Japan, so she is ready to defeat them.
Japan forward Yuki Ogimi (formally known as Yuki Nagasato) was the one and only Japanese player who failed to get her penalty kick in in the 2011 Women's World Cup. She is back again this year and, along with her teammates, ready for a second consecutive World Cup win. In Sunday's match, there is no doubt she will aim to redeem herself for the missed goal four years ago and she has been working hard throughout the tournament so far.
The USA have played very well to get to where they are now, especially after defeating the world no.1's. Japan, although have played well, only made it through to this final by an own goal from the opposing team. Had the own goal not happened, would they still be here?
Neither of the teams will be leaving the game without bringing their everything or more. And they certainly do not want to go in to penalties again, so the battle will be a tough one to survive. Our prediction is that the USA will be victorious: USA 2-1 Japan.
