USA, the two-time winners of the Women's World Cup, made their 25th consecutive win over China PR on Friday evening and secured a spot in their seventh straight World Cup semi final after a 1-0 victory.
Even though the USA were missing first choice midfielders Lauren Holiday and Megan Rapinoe, the American's dominated the majority of the first half but unfortunately wasted a lot of great chances to make a goal.
The USWNT were clearly disappointed that they had finished the first half in a goalless draw, but as the second half began, they were full steam ahead. Less than 10 minutes in to the second half, captain and midfielder Carli Lloyd saved the day by heading the ball directly in to the goal and therefore put the USA ahead with 1-0.
China PR tried very hard to equalise the game in the second half, and they were even presented with a slight advantage when USA were temporarily a player short after defender Kelley O'Hara was left with a bloodied nose.
Unfortunately for China PR - although they statistically had the majority of possesion throughout the match - they were yet again unable to break through the American's. The USA will begin the semi finals in their match against Germany, ranked #1 in the world.
