New York City were on a three match win streak and hoped to increase the statistic against New York Red Bulls. However, the Red Bulls had other plans as they overcame the 1-0 scoreline at half-time to win the game 3-1.
The match was a tale of two halves for the New York Sides. During the first half it was City who came out of the blocks early, scoring a goal in the 6th minute when, Diskerud put the ball into the box which after a few chances at clearance by the Red Bulls, Thomas McNamara was able to finish.
Over the rest of the half it was New York City who were in control with David Villa coming close with a few chances. City were also being watched by Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo during the match. But towards the end of the half, Red Bulls were on the offensive.
In the second half the match turned on its head, with Red Bulls looking the dominant force. Bradley Wright-Phillips capped the change when he scored a left foot into the top-right corner, in the 47th minute. Just 5 minutes later it was Duvall was able to score, sending Red Bulls into the lead.
The final goal of the game came in the form of young Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga. The win dashed the hopes of City fans hoping to secure a 4th win in a row. Red Bulls now move to 4th in the Eastern Conference with rivals City in 9th.
