China PR & USA meet for their first World Cup Match since 1999

The USA and China PR have advanced to the quarter finals of the Women's World Cup after the USWNT beat Colombia 2-0 and China PR dominated Cameroon with 1-0. The two teams haven't met in a World Cup match since 1999, and with both sides confident of winning, only one can reach the semi finals.

The USA and China PR have advanced to the quarter finals of the Women's World Cup after the USWNT beat Colombia 2-0 and China PR dominated Cameroon with 1-0. The two teams haven't met in a World Cup match since 1999, and with both sides confident of winning, only one will progress to the semi finals.

USA

The USA are eager to earn their first Women's World Cup championship since their last one in 1999 where they famously beat China PR in penalty shootouts. The USA are currently going unbeaten against China PR in 24 straight games.

However, the loss of midfielders Lauren Holiday and Megan Rapinoe - after their yellow cards in their match against Colombia - will cause a significant struggle for USWNT – especially Rapinoe as she has continued to show the most strength throughout the tournament. The team have still managed to get more goals for than against despite not playing to their best potential so far.

China PR

China PR have not had much luck against the USA in the past or even recently, but they have stormed through the tournament so far with defensive solidity. Although they have lacked attacking quality, the team ranked 16 have shown more than enough resilience with three goals in their four games played.

Coach Hao Wei has led them to quite a successful World Cup so far, and after an early goal from defender Wang Shanshan they now have the strength and opportunity to make it through to the semi finals.

The two day break should give both teams enough rest and time to plan their tactics for victory and although it's looking to be a very tight match, our prediction for the match is a 1-0 win for the USA to move on to the semi finals.

The match kicks off on Friday June 26th at 19:30 local time, so who do you think will be victorious and take on the semi finals? Let us know on twitter, and use our hashtag #wwc15df.
