The match between USA and Colombia was a closely contested battle and the referee ended up playing a big part awarding two penalties and sending of the Colombian Goalie. But the USA were able to beat their opponents 2-0 to progress to the Quarter Finals.

Forward Alex Morgan put the USA ahead of Colombia when she scored in the second half. Carli Lloyd was then able to convert a spot kick to win the USA the game at 2-0.

The first good chance of the game fell to Abby Wambach, who despite scoring the goal was then (correctly) ruled offside. Wambach then took a volley a few minutes later which Perez was able to save. Overall Colombia still were competing and were making it difficult for the US side.

During the second half, Alex Morgan was fouled inside the box, which lead to referee sending off Perez and awarding the USA a penalty. Wambach stepped up to take the penalty but sent the ball wide.

Morgan was in action again for her side, after she scored from a great run on the left wing to put the USA in front. Later in the game Rapinoe was then brought down to give the USA their second penalty of the game, which Carli Lloyd then scored. Sending the match to 2-0 which ended up being the final result.

Overall the Referee was criticised by both sides after some questionable big calls in the game.

However, the win sends the USA through to play China in the Quarter Finals.
