WWC 2015: Nigeria vs USA Match Review

An experienced USA side took on Nigeria last night. The USA were able to get the win they needed to top their group but Nigeria did come close to getting back in the game, especially with great saves from Dede.

The USA managed to overcome Nigeria in a triumphant 1-0 win, which put them top of their qualifying group yesterday which sent them through the knock-out stages.

The American side played with an air of experience during the game, passing and keeping possession well, but during the first half neither side looked the better.

However, the game soon changed when US striker Abby Wambach scored a fantastic finish from a US corner. Sending the game to 1-0 just before half time.

During the second half the US were soon becoming the more dominant side and Alex Morgan got a chance, which was then saved by Dede. Nigeria did get their best chance of the game late on when a free-kick was just tipped over the bar by Hope Solo.

Morgan came close with a second shot but again Dede was there to protect her goal. While the play was great, one downside for the Nigerians was Nnodim who put in two bad challenges earning herself two yellows and being sent off.

The latest win sends the USA through to the knockout stages at the top of their group due to play the best third placed team from Groups A,C & D.
