The National Women's Soccer League kicked off last Friday with Seattle Reign FC coming out on top.

Seattle Reign stormed their first match of the NWSL with a 5-1 win over Western New York Flash.

Reign started the match with 10 of the 11 players they started with last year. Seattle got off to a good start when Jessica Fishlock scored the opener in the 25th minute.

Over the rest of the first half both team continued to pile on the pressure but no goals were scored.

It appears the sides were saving themselves for the second half, which certainly didn't disappoint. Beverly Yanez got the first goal of the 2nd half after scoring a well-timed finish from just inside the 18-yard box.

Western New York did get a goal back, when Jordan Angeli scored a nicely finished shot into the back of the net. Setting the match score to 2-1.

Once the 70th minute arrived however, we saw just what Megan Rapinoe is capable of when she scored three consecutive goals in the 71st, 74th and 86th minute.

Over the course of the match Seattle looked to be in control and will be raring to try and keep their lead at the top of the table.

Many consider the success down to a good pre-season held by the Reign during which they trained with Diamond Soccer Equipment - See here!
